Poet & playwright Federico García Lorca races to finish his masterpiece,Blood Wedding, as his dreams invade the stage launching him on a quest to rescue a boy who's been kidnapped by the Moon.
Marauding Greeks, a runaway bride, and a raging gay nightclub known as Green.
Will Lorca finish his play before the fascists execute him? Will he be able to elude the seduction of Sardanápalo, the great Assyrian hedonist turned nightclub owner? Will he escape Ajax, the brutal, laconic warrior, and finally enter the ring for the title fight of... MAN VERSES MOON.
Man Verses Moon is an adventure woven from Lorca's personal biography, his most famous play Blood Wedding, and the characters and images from his poetry, in particular a salacious manuscript suppressed until recently by Lorca's family. The counterpoint of these works tells of Lorca's triumph and ultimate transformation as he wrestles with his passions and sexual desires.
Dan Oliverio has directed and produced plays for over 25 years in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, and has translated many works by Borges, Benavente, and Lorca. Most recently for Unknown he directed and translated Kingdom Come, a 16th-century Inca play.
